System of anti-blocking of brakes (ABS) - the general information

ABS enters into a standard complete set of some models, on others can be established in addition.

The system provides modulation of hydraulic pressure in the brake contours, preventing premature blocking of wheels of the car. Each of wheels of the car is equipped with the sensor of frequency of rotation by which signals the ABS control unit determines the moment of the beginning of blocking of the corresponding wheel. Special electromagnetic valves are switched on in hydraulic contours of each of brake mechanisms. The same valves are built in in assembly of the hydraulic ABS modulator. For functioning of the modulator the electronic control unit (ECU) of system on which teams necessary correction of hydraulic pressure in supports of the brake mechanisms is made answers, allowing to avoid premature blocking of wheels and to achieve maximum efficiency of braking of the car.

ECU ABS is equipped with the built-in block of self-diagnostics fixing any refusals of system and compatible to special electronic scanner by means of which specialists of car repair shop make reading brought in memory of the block of information of refusals in system.

The design and principle of functioning of anti-blocking system on Citroёn Xantia cars differ nothing from the usual ABS applied on all other vehicles.
