Belt of a drive of GRM - the general information, removal and installation

Exact adjustment of a tension of a driving belt can achieve only with use of the special Citroёn SEEM 4122-T tool. The description of a way of approximate adjustment (at the first possibility the car should be driven away on car repair shop where correctness of installation can be checked with use of the special equipment) is provided in the text of the section. Try to avoid distant trips and movement with high speeds until the tension of a belt will not be adjusted properly. |
General information
By means of a gas-distributing belt the drive of a camshaft and the water pump is carried out. Rotation is transferred through cogwheels from a cranked shaft. Remember that break or a proskalzyvaniye of a gas-distributing belt at the working engine leads to serious damages of a head of cylinders as a result of blow of plates of valves about the bottoms of pistons.
Replacement of a gas-distributing belt should be made strictly according to the schedule of routine maintenance of the car (address to Head Routine maintenance). Extraordinary replacement of a belt should be made in case of pollution by its oil, and also at emergence of the scraping sounds testifying to non-uniform wear of a tape or teeths.
At the same time with change of a belt it is necessary to check the water pump on existence of signs of leaks.
Removal

|
1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.
2. To Poddomkratta a car front also establish it on props. Remove the right forward wheel.
3. Release clamps, turn out fixing screws and remove a loker.
4. Remove a belt of a drive of auxiliary units (address to Head Routine maintenance). Also отболтите also remove a natyazhitel of an auxiliary belt.
5. To Otboltita also remove the top cover of a gas-distributing belt (see. Removal and installation of covers of a gas-distributing belt).
6. Achieve combination of openings for blocking of cranked and distributive shaft and pass in them metal cores of the corresponding diameter (see. Fixing cranked/distributive shaft for the purpose of prevention casual in the course of performance of procedures of service of the car). At all do not allow attempts of a provorachivaniye of the engine after introduction of blocking cores.
7. Remove a pulley of a cranked shaft (see. Removal and installation of a pulley of a cranked shaft).
8. On models 1.6 and 1.8 of l remove the central cover of a gas-distributing belt. On models of 2.0 l отболтите also remove the bottom cover (see. Removal and installation of covers of a gas-distributing belt).
9. Release a bolt of fastening of a roller of a natyazhitel of a gas-distributing belt. By means of a special key of the square section passed in an opening in a nave of a roller develop the last clockwise and fix it in this situation, again having tightened a fixing bolt. |

10. If the belt acts in film not for the purpose of replacement performance, mark with chalk or paint the direction of its rotation (if the similar label is not put at manufacturer). Remove a belt from cogwheels. Remember that the cranked shaft should not be turned at the removed gas-distributing belt. |

11. Attentively examine a belt on all its length, paying attention to traces of pollution by oil and signs of non-uniform wear. It is necessary to give special attention to a condition of the bases of teeths. It is necessary to replace the belt which was in a doubtful condition without any fluctuations. If the engine needs major maintenance, or its run makes more than 60 000 km (36 000 miles) a belt (if it was not established recently) is subject to replacement without fail. Do not forget that cost of a new belt anything in comparison with the expenses connected with regenerative repair of the engine after an exit of its system as a result of break of a belt in use of the car. At detection of traces of pollution of a belt by oil it is necessary to reveal a source of leak and to eliminate the reason of its development. Carefully wipe a surface of the power unit around installation of a gas-distributing belt, having completely removed oil traces from all accompanying components. |

Installation

1. Before installation carefully clear cogwheels which the gas-distributing belt is put on. Check freedom of rotation of a roller of a natyazhitel, in case of need replace the last (see. Removal, check of a condition and installation of a natyazhitel and cogwheels of a gas-distributing belt).
2. Make sure of presence on the place of the core blocking a cogwheel of a camshaft (see. Fixing cranked/distributive shaft for the purpose of prevention casual in the course of performance of procedures of service of the car). Temporarily establish into place a pulley of a cranked shaft and pass a core of suitable diameter in its blocking opening to make sure of correctness of provision of a shaft (see in the same place).
3. Remove a pulley of a cranked shaft. Get a gas-distributing belt on the regular place, having tracked observance of the direction of its rotation (clockwise at a look from the right board of the car).
4. Try not to overwind excessively at installation a belt. Throw with a belt cogwheels of distributive and cranked shaft. Track, that forward "run" of a belt appeared will pull, i.e. all weak point should gather on the party of a natyazhitel. Now put on a belt a cogwheel of the water pump and on a roller of a natyazhitel. Track, that teeths of a belt settled down in the central part of forming surfaces of cogwheels.
5. Temporarily establish into place a pulley of a cranked shaft, having moderately tightened a bolt of its fastening. Pass a core of suitable diameter in a blocking opening (see. Adjustment of a tension of a belt is made at the removed covers. For installation of covers into place it is necessary to remove a pulley of a cranked shaft once again. |
6. Weaken a bolt of fastening of a roller of a natyazhitel. By means of a special key of square section develop a roller counter-clockwise, having completely chosen a belt weak point.
7. In the presence of near at hand special the adaptation for adjustment of a tension of a belt, establish it on forward "run" of the last. The roller of a natyazhitel should be adjusted so that the initial tension of a belt made 16 ± 2 block of the adaptation for models of 2.0 l and 30 ± 2 block for l models 1.6 and 1.8.
8. Take blocking cores and turn a cranked shaft on two complete revolutions in the direction clockwise (looking from the right board of the car). Again achieve combination of blocking openings (see. Fixing cranked/distributive shaft for the purpose of prevention casual in the course of performance of procedures of service of the car). At all do not turn a cranked shaft counter-clockwise. Drillings in a cogwheel distributive and a pulley cranked shaft should be combined with reciprocal openings in a head and the block of cylinders so that in the last blocking cores of the corresponding diameter were freely passed. Performance of the last condition gives a guarantee of correctness of installation of phases of a gazoraspredeleniye. Do not forget to take blocking cores.
9. If to achieve demanded combination of openings it is not possible, repeat procedure of installation of a belt.
10. If adjustment of a tension of a belt has to be made without the special adaptation, try to achieve, that at the moderate effort enclosed by big and index by fingers on a site in the middle of forward "run", the tape of a belt was overwound on 90 °. Violation of this condition is fraught with unexpected break of a belt (too hard tension), or its proskalzyvaniya on cogwheels. Both and another can lead that to serious internal damages of the engine as a result of blow of valves about the bottoms of pistons. In case of need correct as appropriate the provision of a roller of a natyazhitel. In summary tighten a bolt of fastening of a roller with demanded effort.
11. If made adjustment of a tension of a belt with use of the special adaptation, turn a cranked shaft on two complete revolutions in the direction of normal rotation, then achieve combination of blocking openings of a camshaft and pass in them a core of the corresponding diameter. Make sure that the belt tension on forward "run" makes 44 ± 2 block, otherwise repeat installation procedure.
12. Having achieved the correct tension of a belt, take a blocking finger from a camshaft cogwheel, then remove a pulley of a cranked shaft and establish into place a forward cover (and).
13. Finalize into place a pulley of a cranked shaft for what grease a carving of its fixing bolt with fixing hermetic of the Loctite type, then screw a bolt (do not forget about a washer) and tighten it with demanded effort (see. Removal and installation of a pulley of a cranked shaft).
14. Establish into place a natyazhitel of an auxiliary driving belt, then establish actually a belt and adjust effort of its tension (address to Head Routine maintenance).
15. Establish into place a loker, then the right forward wheel. Lower the car on the earth and tighten bolts of fastening of a wheel with demanded effort.
16. Connect a negative wire to the battery.
